Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
At The Fulham Bilingual everyone is welcome, everyone belongs.
Our approach to diversity is simple: it’s about embracing everyone. When children, families and staff feel seen and heard, they thrive. Our EDI working party was set up several years ago with the following aim:
To embed the principles of EDI across our school culture and curriculum.
The work undertaken so far is as follows:
- Changes to our curriculum to reflect the communities we serve. This included looking again at the Scientists we explore, the era's of History and significant people we study, the musicians and artists we are inspired by.
- Flooding our library with diverse books. We believe in the power of representation. Children need to see themselves in our books and learning.
If we can’t see it
We can’t imagine it and so
We can’t be it.
- We introduced the Cultural calendar - this is an acknowledgment of festivals, celebrations and awareness days throughout the year.
- Embedding the Equality Code in school.
- Providing staff training to ensure we all have a shared understanding of EDI:
Inclusive Practice in Education - Primary schools, secondary schools and colleges
Embrace and Celebrate: LGBTQ+
ARISE: Anti-Racism in Schools and Education
Ashiana: forced marriage and FGM
Sendco CPD
While we have more work to do to advance diversity and inclusion, we’re investing to move our school forward.
